The World Youth Day 2013 will take place in Rio de Janeiro from July 23rd through the 28th. The dates were confirmed by the Pontifical Council for the Laity in Vatican.

The announcement was made during the meeting between the Pontifical Council and the members of the Local Organizer Committee from Rio that was in Rome on Dec. 12 and 13.

Representing the Committee were Archbishop of Rio, Orani João Tempesta, who is its president, the Bishops Antonio Augusto Dias Duarte and Paulo Cezar Costa with monsignor Joel Portella Amado, the general coordinator of World Youth Day 2013, Father Marcio Queiroz, communications director, Father Renato Martins, director of the main events and Father Marcos William Bernardo, director of cultural events.

Besides the dates, the official logo for World Youth Day Rio 2013 was also selected during the meetings from a group of proposals drawn from an international contest and it will be launched soon.
