Cardinal Rylko, on his arrival at Rio, speaks about his expectations on the World Youth Day Rio 2013. Check out the activities programed for the Pontifical Council for the laity in the city.

The president of the Pontifical Council for the laity (PCL), Cardinal Stanislaw Rylko, arrived in Rio coming from Rome in this morning, February 27^th, followed by the members of the commission which will be visiting the city until Friday, March 2^nd . The PCL is the agency responsible for the organization of the World Youth Day in Vatican.

The Cardinal and the other committee members, Father Eric Jacquinet, responsible for the Youth Section, Bedescci Marcello, president of  the John Paul II Foundation for Youth and the priests José João Chagas and Anísio José, MSHJ, were received at the International Airport of Rio de Janeiro (Galleon-Tom Jobim), by the President of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of WYD 2013 and archbishop of Rio, Dom Orani João Tempesta, by the auxiliary bishops Cardinal Paulo Cesar Costa and Don Antonio Augusto Dias Duarte and by some of the directors responsible fo sectors in the  LOC. From the airport the group went to the Centre for Studies at Sumaré, where the committee will be staying.

On their arrival at Sumaré, Cardinal Rylko said that Pope Benedict XVI follows closely all the preparation for the WYD and hopes for the participation of all the youngsters “on this great faith adventure” which is the WYD.

The visit

The representatives of the PCL, which is the Central Organizing Committee of World Youth Day, will attend with a series of meetings with representatives of the local organizing committee and the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil.

Within the activities provided there is a meeting with the Governor of Rio de Janeiro, Sérgio Cabral and the Mayor of the city, Eduardo Paes on this Tuesday, the 28^th. On the same day a visit to Rio’s City Hall Operation Center and a meeting with those responsible for social movements and new communities will take place.

On the 29^th the committee of the PLC will visit a couple of  places selected as options to hold the ceremonies with the presence of Pope Benedict XVI during the WYD Rio2013, which will be held on July 23^rd till the 28^th, 2013.

At the date when the “Marvelous City” will be celebrating its 447^th foundation, March 1^st, Cardinal Rylko will celebrate a mass during the morning at the Archdiocesan Shinre of Christ the Redeemer Corcovado. At night there will be a meeting with the  youth, at the church of Sant’Ana, downtown.

The visit will end at March 2^nd, there will be a press conference at the Archdiocese of Rio, with Dom Orani and Cardinal Rylko, at 11am.
