World Youth Day (WYD) Rio2013 organization takes a step further in interactivity and information to young people around the world. Is now available the application "Follow the Cross", an official WYD Rio 2013 tool that will enable either using a phone or a tablet, follow the journey of the WYD symbols (Pilgrim Cross and the Icon of Our Lady) throughout Brazil. The tool is free and is available for downloading.
Developed by the Department of Technology of Information of Canção Nova Catholic Community, upon WYD Rio 2013 Institute request, the application can be acquired initially on ITunes Store by users for iPad, iPhone and iPod. Eventually, they will also launch the version for Tablets and smart phones with the Android platform.
The tool will display dynamically, via a geo-localization resource map, the journey made by the WYD Cross Rio2013. Moreover, users can interact with friends by Twitter and Facebook, trace routes for detailed locality where the cross is, and access exclusives photo galleries.
"The tool, which is free, shows in real-time the Cross location", notes João Paulo Ferraz Kruschewsky, Canção Nova IT/Mobile Manager.
Brazil already feels the joy of the WYD with the pilgrimage of The Youth Cross and the Icon of Our Lady, which since September 18th are in the country. The symbols will visit all the dioceses in Brazil and the Southern Cone countries (South America) as a preparation to WYD Rio 2013.
With the application, the user will see, initially, his/her current position on the map by a blue circle, to be automatically updated if the person walks. Circles in red, green and yellow, will show the locations where the cross was where it is at that time and where it will be.
The green circles will point out on the map all places where the Cross has been to; it will display name, address, and date of visit (arrival and departure). This resource will allow sharing through the social networks (Facebook and Twitter) and give the option "How to get here" which traces the route from the user’s starting point marked with a cross (where the Cross is).
The red circle will show the location where the cross is at the moment, with information about the region and options of how to get there.
The yellow circle will indicate all the registered locations to be visited by the Cross. Thus, as in the other options, the user will also see the information about the region that will receive the WYD symbols.
