Immaculate Conception
Biography
In the year 1717, three fishermen, in their way to launch their nets to fish in the waters of the Paraíba River, found the image of Our Lady.
Due to the many miracles and increased devotion She was proclaimed patron saint of Brazil in 1930 and years later it was erected in her honor, a great basilica which hosts millions of pilgrims every year.
WYD invokes as the Protector of the Church and families!

Saint Sebastian
Biography
Sebastian preferred the fidelity to Christ before any civil or military honor and, therefore, was expelled from the army and died on the persecution of Diocletioan on 300. We can see highlighted in the life of the saint his courage and his love to the Lord Jesus. The WYD invoke him as a soldier and martyr of Faith!

May your intercession me the grace to obey God

Saint Anthony from Santana Galvão
Biography
Born in Guaratinguetá in 1739. Family with great resources and possibilities, renounced everything and entered into the Franciscan order. Diffusor of peace and love with words and deeds, became the model of delivery. His miracles began while he was still alive, distributing pills made with his own hands, which generated great healings. We invoke as a herald of peace and love!

Saint Therese of Lisieux
Biography
St Therese of Jesus was born in France in 1873. At 15 she went into a Carmelite monastery, where she lived with humility and simplicity her total trust in God. She was proclaimed Patroness of the Missions in 1927, by her deep desire to be a missionay and by her willingness to give everything for the good of others. The WDY invokes her as the Missions Patroness!

Grant me your missionary spirit to

Blessed John Paul II
Biography
Pope John Paul II, the Great, was the creator of the World Youth Day, in 1984. Considered as the Pope of the Youth, he worked in the dialogue with them, and he invited them to recognize their place and mission inside the Church. His pontificate was durable and he helped to guide the Christians, based on the inspirations of Vatican II. He fought until the last moment of his life sharing with us his happiness to give himself to Christ and to our Lady, the Virgin Mary. We invoke him as the friend of the youth!

Saint Rose of Lima
Biography
Isabel Flores was born in Lima, Peru, the year of 1576. Rosa was her nickname because of the beauty of her face. She was the first saint of the Americas and is specially noted by her intense life of prayer and penance. She has had many difficulties in her life, but, in front of them, she mantained an extraordinary serenity, imitating Christ poor and crucified. We pray for her intercession to be faithful to God's will.

Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati
Biography
Born in Turin, April 6, 1901. At birth he presented respiratory failure, so he was immediately baptized. He was a friend of the poor, seeing into them Christ himself. At 18, he was enrrolled in the Fraternity of the Rosary of Pollone and in the Community of St Vincent de Paul. He always loved the humiliated, devoting his life to do good. His heart was for the others. We recognize him as someone who ardently love the poors and the Church!

Blessed Chiara Luce Badano
Biography
Born in Sassello, Italy. When she was 10 years old, she has a strong experience of the encouter with God that changed her life and her parent's life. Since then, she decided to live radically the Gospel, seeking to love all those around her. When she was 18, was diagnosed with a bone tumor. She lives with great courage every stage of her painful illness. We invoke her for her total commitment to Jesus!

Help me overcome the challenges faced by youth today so that
my life will be given over to Jesus Christ without reservation. Amen.
Blessed Frederick Ozanam
Biography
Born in Milan, Italy. He grew up in an atmosphere of deep spirit of charity, especially by the example of their parents. In love with the existential and spiritual issues, he studies philosophy, where he found arguments that support the social commitment of the Catholics. He died in 1853 at 40 years old, leaving the precious heritage of the Vincentian Conferences and the security of having done the will of God in his life. We invoke him as a servant of the poor.

Blessed Adilio Daronch
Biography
Born in october 1908 in Dona Francisca, of a family of modest conditions in an isolated town in the interior of Brazil. From his childhood he loved to pray and to helped in the Masses. At 16, he was killed along with Fr. Manuel Gomez Gonzalez, through the work of some revolutionaries who met on the road during a trip to visit distant Christian communities. We invoke him for his strong friendship with Christ!

Saint Teresa of the Andes
Biography
Born in Chile in 1900. Since the age of 6 she participated almost daily at the Holy Mass. Her constancy in the Eucharist reveals her inner thirst to meet Christ. Many people say that before entering to the Carmel, at 17, she lived a holy life, which attracted souls to God. She was always aware that her prayer and sacrifice were able to improve and purify the world. Currently on her tomb we see her words: "Love is stronger." We pray for her intercession for us to learn to be contemplatives of Christ!

the desire to worship and glorify Jesus without pause. Amen!
Blessed José de Anchieta
Biography
Born in 1534 in Tenerife, Canary Islands. He entered to the Jesuit Order and he was sent as a missionary to Brazil. He was ordained in 1566 and served as superior of communities and principal of all the mission in Brazil, work that was done with great wisdom and safety. He died in 1597 and received the tittle of "Apostle of Brazil". We, the young people of the WYD Rio2013, invoke him in the same way!

Like your example, may we multiply and be fruitful
in missionary activity throughout our country. Amen.
Blessed Isidore Bakanja
Biography
Isidore was born approximately in 1890, in Bokendela, Congo. He has had a very poor life and he worked as a farmer in the field. His baptism in 1986, was from his meeting with Carmelite missionaries who gave him a Rosary and the scapular of Our Lady of Carmelo. Very devoted of the Virgin Mary, he merrily prayed and sang while working. Once, unable to do so, he decides to leave his post, but without accepting the order to leave the visible signs of his faith. He was wounded on his back with whips and died, because he didn't resist to the wounds. We invoke him as a martyr of the scapular.

Blessed Sister Dulce
Biography
Born in 1914 in Salvador. Since a young age she showed a profound spirit of charity. She was noted for the perseverance and the effort to care for the sicks. She never close a door to a person who needed help. She entered to the Congregation of the Sisters Missionaries of the Immaculate Conception of the Mother of God. She founded associations and inaugurated schools and hospitals. We invoke her as Ambassatrix of the Charity!

Intercede for us, oh "good angel of Brazil" *, so that we
are able to joyfully share the gifts we have received with
those in need who have been presented to us. Amen.
St Jorge
Biography
In the Church's tradition he was a soldier of the Roman Empire at the time of Diocletian. He was converted to the Christianity and for that reason, he was tortured and beheaded.
Since the fourth century he was venerated throughout the Church as a martyr of Christ. The tradition presented him as one who faces the dragon, symbolizing the firm faith. Someome who triumphs over the evil forces. We invoke him as a fighter against evil!

before the onslaught of evil, awaiting the

Blessed Laura Vicuña
Biography
Born in Chile, 1891. At 10, she made her First Communion, and thereafter, she made the purpose of love God with all her mights. She strives to make Jesus known and for repair the offenses against Him. Seeing her mother into a state of sin, she gave her life for her conversion. She felt seriously ill and she was called to the Father's Presence at 12. We invoke her intercession as a martyr of purity!

Give me the grace and help to adhere

St Andrew Kim
Biography
In the early eighteenth century, the Christian Faith came at the first time in Korea. A fervent group had the spiritual direction of Father Andrew Kim, the first priest of the community. In 3 persecutions between 1839 and 1866 he died along with another 102 fellow martys, devoting with his precious blood the principles of the Korean Church. We invoke them as martyrs of evangelization!

Blessed Albertina Berkenbrock
Biography
Born in Santa Catarina in April 1919. At 12 years old she was murdered because she wanted to preserve her puruty. Martyrdom and the consequente reputation of holiness spread rapidly. She was a girl who developed a great sensitivity in her relationship with God and with the others. We invoke her as a virtuous on the Gospel values.
